This morning, my middle daughter and I had one of those rare moments that felt like a gift. My parents had just helped us clear our back patio, and we were finally able to sit outside together. I made her hot chocolate—not an everyday thing—and had my coffee while we enjoyed the morning.
As my daughter stirred her hot chocolate, she became mesmerized by the beautiful swirls the foam made. "Look, Mom!" she said, watching those delicate patterns emerge and disappear. In that moment, I was struck by how God includes these beautiful details everywhere—in hot chocolate swirls, in the quiet joy of unexpected one-on-one time with our kids.
We miss so much beauty because we're not looking.
Later, I was reading about Moses at the burning bush, when he asked God, "Who am I to go?" God's response was simple but profound: "I am who I am, and I'll go with you" (Exodus 3:14). But here's what struck me—the Holy Spirit had been forming Moses' character in secret, working behind the scenes to prepare him for what God would ask him to do.
This gives me hope when I'm painfully aware of my own brokenness.
Maybe you're like me, acutely aware of how you fall short. You wonder how God could possibly use someone as flawed as you.
Or perhaps you're in a season where God feels distant, but you can't see any evidence of His presence.
Here's what I want you to know:
Just like with Moses, God is working in your life in secret ways you can't see. Every time you notice beauty in the midst of struggle—God is forming your character for purposes you don't yet understand.
Practical ways to trust God's hidden work:
Notice the small beauties. Like my daughter marveling at her hot chocolate swirls, train yourself to see God's details in everyday moments.
Give God permission to work. Tell Him honestly about your brokenness, but trust that He's equipping you in ways you can't see.
God is going to show up to do the miracle, but first, He's inviting you to show up and be willing to walk toward it. Your willingness, even in your brokenness, is huge. It's brave. And it's enough for God to work with.
Remember this Truth in God's Word: "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." ~ Ephesians 2:10 (ESV)
If you ask God to work in your life and give Him permission to act, He will answer—even when you can't see it, even when you can't feel it.
You're not alone, and you're not forgotten. He's preparing you in secret for purposes that will one day take your breath away.
